The Person Behind DoneTechGuides
Plain-English Tech Guidance, Built on 25 Years of Real Experience
Hi, I’m Stephen Dunn. I am a cybersecurity professional, Bloomsbury author, and the person who writes every guide on this site.

My Background
From Building PCs at 14 to Advising Organisations Across the UK
I got my first computer at eight years old and never really looked back. By fourteen I was building my own PCs. After a brief detour into Chemistry, I chose IT as a career and 25 years later I still find it as fascinating as I did at the start.
Over that time I’ve held senior IT roles across multiple industries, developed a specialism in cybersecurity, and earned my CISSP, one of the most respected certifications in the profession. I also contribute to the next generation of IT professionals as a CISSP exam developer and as an adviser to the Scottish Qualifications Authority on their college IT syllabus.
But the thing that drives me most isn’t the technical side, it’s helping people who don’t have a technical background make sense of a world that increasingly depends on technology.
That’s why DoneTechGuides exists.
Coming Soon
A Book Written for the People Who Need It Most
I’ve signed a publishing deal with Bloomsbury Publishing which is one of the world’s most respected publishers, to release a book specifically written for small business owners and charity leaders on how to handle a cyber incident when you don’t have a dedicated IT team.
It’s the book I wish had existed when I was advising organisations who had just experienced a cyber attack and had no idea what to do next. Plain English, practical steps, and no assumption of technical knowledge because when something goes wrong, the last thing you need is jargon.

Community and Charity Work
Giving Back — Cybersecurity Where It Matters Most
Outside of DoneTechGuides and my day to day work at, I serve as a Non-Executive Director of several charities.
This means I acutely understand the challeneges this sector faces, and the wonderful people who dedicate their working lives to the service of others.
It’s work I’m genuinely proud of and it reinforces everything this site stands for: that cybersecurity knowledge should be accessible to everyone, not just organisations with large IT budgets.
